The eye-popping design was created by in-house interior design Amethyst Hudson who worked closely with the Menz team to design and build their dream retail fit out.
Amethyst says, “The owners wanted to create an iconic, memorable, retail shopfront which captured the history of the brand, depicted the story across the space and felt like a traditional chocolate shop.”
At the front of house, our carpenters crafted bespoke wooden arched shelving, a curved shop counter and cleverly hidden storage to tick all the function design boxes. The existing concrete flooring was polished and clever storyboard murals, quotes and fun signage were hand painted to mimic the brand’s playful nature.
Amethyst says, “A bright, colourful paint palette was chosen to compliment and contrast the eye-popping signature chocolate products. I loved the choice of the dark chocolate colour for the ceiling, where we created a drip effect down the walls, to mirror melted chocolate. Black and white striped panels added an old fashioned feel and neon signage added extra pinches of colour and fun to the space.”
The owners wanted to make a feature of the chocolate-making element of the business, as the chocolate is made in-house, so the team designed a glass viewing window for customers to observe the delicious treats being handcrafted by chocolatiers. The clever glass feature transformed the traditional retail fit out into a retail experience for customers.
Clever signage, intricate rainbow motifs, lighting and storytelling murals completed the look, adding a sense of fun and playfulness to the space. The flagship store screams Charlie and the Chocolate and has a childlike, dream feel.
