Total Fitouts Wide Bay: Transforming a Coffee Shop into an Iconic Fish Market
Warren Thorpe and the Total Fitouts Wide Bay team recently took on a unique challenge – transforming an iconic coffee shop in Hervey Bay into an iconic fish market. The project was a full design and retail commercial fitout, involving a defit of the old coffee shop, in-house commercial interior design and the construction of a new space that would showcase the freshest fish and seafood in the area. The owners of The Hervey Bay Fish Market had a clear vision and certain essential design elements to incorporate in the design.
The project involved many different elements, from creating huge storage areas to keep the fish fresh, to installing a cold room, enormous ice flaker and massive stainless steel benches. The team also added an epoxy flooring, a filleting room, display cabinets, and bespoke branded signage to complete the look. One of the key focuses of the project was to create easy-to-clean and hygienic surfaces, which is essential in a seafood environment.
Warren says, “The local business owner had a clear vision for the project, and the Total Fitouts Wide Bay team was able to bring it to life. The project did take longer than hoped due to delays with the cold room, but the result was worth the wait. The space is brightly lit to show off the fresh produce, with splashes of ocean blue and bespoke benches clad in durable VJ cement sheeting. Everything was strategically designed to create open displays that showcase the fish, oysters, prawns, and bugs straight off the boat.”

The Total Fitouts Wide Bay team is proud to have been a part of such a unique project. Transforming a coffee shop into a fish market was a challenge, but the team’s experience and expertise made it possible. The local business owner is thrilled with the end result, and the fish market has quickly become a popular destination for locals and visitors alike.
